FAUNComplete

AI-assisted fault diagnosis and interactive service support for municipal commercial vehicles.

FAUNComplete helps fleet managers make sense of technical fault codes while vehicles are in active use. When municipal commercial vehicles report errors, the people in charge need to quickly understand what is behind them. That used to be difficult, because the faults were often only visible as short and highly technical codes.

With FAUNComplete, an assistant appears when a fault code is opened. It describes the issue in plain language and, on request, offers a guided troubleshooting flow with concrete next steps. If a problem cannot be solved directly, the system also prepares a suggested support ticket pre-filled with what is already known and which steps have been taken.

Fault codes that used to be understood only by specialists can now be understood by everyone and are usually solved without outside help. That has fundamentally changed our everyday work."

How it works

Starting point and objective

From the status quo to a clearly defined objective

Starting point
  • FAUN and the users in the fleet context worked with highly technical fault messages from the vehicles.
  • These fault messages were transmitted to the system via telemetry.
  • Troubleshooting information existed in extensive Excel lists and documentation maintained by domain experts.
  • The information was strongly condensed, technically worded and not directly action-oriented, which made it hard to use for anyone who was not an expert.
  • Troubleshooting therefore depended heavily on distributed knowledge.
Objective
  • Make fault codes visible in the vehicle overview and automatically translate them into understandable recommended actions.
  • Deliver AI-assisted, multi-step solution proposals in a transparent and traceable way directly inside the FAUNComplete interface.
  • Seamless integration without a separate surface; when needed, escalate with a pre-filled support ticket and linked drawings.

Process chain

From fault code to solution

  1. 1.The user logs in via the existing FAUNComplete platform.
  2. 2.The user gets access to an overview of their municipal commercial vehicles.
  3. 3.Vehicles are shown with their current state, faults and additional telemetry data.
  4. 4.Fault codes are clearly highlighted in the vehicle overview.
  5. 5.The system shows the fault message in a more understandable form along with important notes, for example whether driving on is still possible.
  6. 6.The assistant delivers structured, multi-step troubleshooting steps based on the expert input and additional documentation.
  7. 7.Users can decide after each step: problem solved, next step, or create a support ticket.
  8. 8.If relevant drawing numbers appear in the troubleshooting text, the system detects them automatically and offers the matching plan or technical drawing for direct download.
  9. 9.If troubleshooting is not enough, a support ticket is prepared and pre-filled to a large extent automatically.

Architecture highlights

Core building blocks

  • Fully integrated into FAUNComplete: the assistant is not a separate tool but part of the familiar interface, including additional technical coordination with the third-party provider.
  • Telemetry data as input: fault codes are read directly from the vehicle context and handed to the AI pipeline.
  • Enriched troubleshooting knowledge: terse expert input from Excel lists is combined with additional technical knowledge and documentation, for answers that go beyond plain keyword lists.
  • Automatic drawing detection: the system recognizes drawing numbers in the troubleshooting text and links the matching technical plans directly from SharePoint, without manual search.
  • Always current: changed Excel content is pulled in automatically and regularly from SharePoint so the system always reflects the latest state of knowledge.
